ARABIC IMMERSION IN ONE ACADEMIC YEAR
This new one-year full-time pioneering Arabic programme will begin a new chapter in the dissemination of the Arabic language for Western students.
As travel to traditional destinations for Arabic language acquisition such as Syria, Yemen and Egypt has become virtually impossible or increasingly arduous, Abu Zahra Foundation has set out to provide a one-year, full-time programme that will allow students to learn Arabic without leaving the comfort of their homes.
Qur’an, Hadith and Classical texts, and Spoken Arabic
An academically rigorous one-year study will allow students to go from no prior knowledge of the Arabic language to being able to comprehend the Qur’an, Hadith and Classical texts of the Islamic scholarly tradition, as well developing speaking skills to converse in an academic or professional setting.
These are high expectations but we believe the expertise of our resident Egyptian teacher, who has over 20 years of experience teaching Western students, supported by an accomplished management team will ensure that your experience will be one that will produce outstanding results, in sha’ Allah.
Connect to the Islamic Scholarly Tradition
Let this course begin your journey to fulfil a dream to speak in Arabic and start on a path studying the Islamic sciences with native Arabic speaking teachers. On completion of the course, you can enter an array of learning avenues:
- Access the Islamic Sciences in the original Arabic
- Enter a profession that will require an additional language
- Enjoy accessing the glorious nuances of Arabic in your daily reading of the Qur’an and Hadith.
- Bank on this skill to hand down to your offspring, making it a sadaqa jarriya (unending charity).
Arabic will also connect you with a scholarly tradition that will inspire and imbue a change of character which can be life changing.
Conducive Environment for Learning
Based at our newly refurbished and modern learning centre in Keighley, West Yorkshire, classrooms are spacious, bright and comfortably furnished, creating a conducive environment for learning and communicative activities. Class size will be small to encourage and facilitate maximum student-centred participation and interaction. Interactive SMART boards will enhance your learning experience.
Join us today for a year to savour!
Language of Instruction
All instruction will be in Arabic from the very first day of the course!
Fusion of MSA & Classical Arabic
Textbook instruction coupled with communicative opportunities means a complete Arabic immersion experience will be gained in a seamless manner. The course will concentrate on receptive and productive skills–allowing you to work independently with the language–to maximise your grasp of key grammatical and morphological concepts and use of idioms in the target language so that your interaction with the Qur’an and other religious primary materials comes to life. Furthermore, the MSA (Modern Standard Arabic) elements will enable you to understand and communicate with native speakers with confidence.
The curriculum is an attempt to produce a natural and seamless fusion between MSA and Classical language to prepare students to adequately access primary texts and engage in today’s communicative language.
The course begins at Beginner Level and progresses though Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and ends at Advanced Level. Each stage will have its assigned course book, either ‘Arabic for the World or ‘Al-Arabiyyatu Bayna Yaadayk’. A formalised study of Arabic Morphology (Sarf), Grammar (Nahw), Rhetoric (Balagha) using classical and modern texts will take place using customised notes and workbooks. You will also and analyse Classic texts through customised material. The Hans Wehr Arabic-English dictionary (paper or electronic formats) will be your constant companion for lexical work.
Assessment will be during and at the end of each stage and a final summative exam will provide the overall grade.
Option 1: Discounted one-off payment of £2995
Option 2: £1100 per term, payable at the beginning of each of the 3 terms.
A non-transferable scholarship to cover part or all the course fees are available for those not able to pay and are zakat eligible. Please indicate on the form and the admissions team will respond with next steps.
The Foundation is based in Keighley, a small industrial town, north of Leeds and Bradford, and a few miles from Skipton in North Yorkshire (a market town which is the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales). The town has a sizeable Muslim population spread out in various neighbourhoods and areas.
Our centre is ideally located in the town centre giving access to local shops, amenities and transport links – regular train and bus routes are served to and from major cities.
Accommodation in and around Keighley
For those that wish to relocate as resident students, rental accommodation is available near the campus through private landlords, which the Foundation can assist in finding. A number of mosques and diverse cuisine eateries are all within walking distance of the campus.
